Roberta

Agnes Rochelle Motes, 66, of Roberta, Georgia, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Born on March 11, 1959, in Greensboro, Georgia, Agnes was the beloved daughter of Mrs. Jennette Rainey Carter and the late Mr. Marcus Eugene Rainey.

Agnes lived a life rooted deeply in faith. She loved her Lord, was devoted to Jesus, and cherished her church family. Her faith guided her every step and was evident in the way she loved and cared for others.

She was a proud and devoted grandmother whose grandchildren were the joy of her life. Agnes also enjoyed the simple pleasures that made her smile, watching her favorite soap operas, cheering on the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs, and following NASCAR. Known for her loving yet fierce nature, Agnes had a heart of gold. She was generous, family-oriented, and always ready to give of herself to those she loved.

Those who knew her will forever remember her wisdom and humor through her favorite sayings: “As long as I owe you, you’ll never be broke,” and “If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” These words reflected her values, strength, and the grace with which she lived her life.

In addition to her father, Agnes was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph Motes; her brother, Jessie Mark Rainey; and her sister, Debra Ann Phillips.

Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Jennette Rainey Carter; her daughter, Melissa (William) Amerson; her son, William Glen Garrison; her brother, Robbin (Jessica) Rainey; her grandchildren, Holly (Angel) Amerson, Kaleigh Davidson, Dakota Yomans, and Charleigh Willis; her great-grandchild, Elena Cabe; along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.

A service to celebrate Agnes’s life may be held at a later date.

Agnes will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
